Blogging Assignment #7
I think the second quote by C.S. Lewis in 1944 means that in the future human could do or be whatever they wish to be. Nowadays some people call nature as our mother nature and they claim that humans are powerless against nature. However, in the quote I think C.S. Lewis is trying to say that humans will overturn the conventional wisdom as gaining new technologies. However, this means that there would be a battle between humans with those new technologies which are enhanced people and natural human like us. Therefore there would be more enhanced human who could modify themselves and as a result it would change human nature. This is how I interpret C.S. Lewis's quote.

Your interpretation is astute. It seems to be human nature to overturn human nature.
