I think my academic skills of researching, reading, writing and discussion in English had improved in ELP. Firstly, researching and getting information from databases such as ProQuest and Lexis Nexis were new thing that I have learned. Although I was familiar with MLA style format since I was in high school, I did not know about databases and they were very useful in writing my essays. Secondly, through this term I think my writing skills improved, even though I still make grammatical mistakes. I learned the importance of writing outline, which made my idea and structure of my essay clearly. Thirdly, through reading ELP reader, I studies new ideas from experts in various stages. I realized there are many perspectives that we could think about one thing. Finally, I was familiar with discussing in English but I think my discussion skills had improved with discussing academic topics.

I think the second quote by C.S. Lewis in 1944 means that in the future human could do or be whatever they wish to be. Nowadays some people call nature as our mother nature and they claim that humans are powerless against nature. However, in the quote I think C.S. Lewis is trying to say that humans will overturn the conventional wisdom as gaining new technologies. However, this means that there would be a battle between humans with those new technologies which are enhanced people and natural human like us. Therefore there would be more enhanced human who could modify themselves and as a result it would change human nature. This is how I interpret C.S. Lewis's quote.

"The law of unintended consequences" means an action turns to unintended result that we have not expected, I think. This unintended consequences may become both positive and negative. The example of the positive unintended consequence is that I made a big mistake in brass band competition but we finally got a gold prize. The opposite thing also happened to me when I was in brass band in junior high and high school. For me, the law of unintended consequences means we get unintended result which we have not expected to happen at the beginning.

My topic of essay2 is bioethics and surrogate motherhood system. I chose this topic because I knew the surrogate motherhood system is legal in some countries but in other countries it is not and I was interested in that difference. I heard there is a such difference because the surrogate motherhood system still has problems and those differences affect each family members differently. In my essay, I want to look closely on the problems of the surrogate motherhood system. Ergo, my thesis statement for this essay is 'surrogacy affects family members differently depending on their role in the family.'

If enhanced students are around me, I think I could not able to understand what they are thinking. I feel they are like mysterious people who came from different world. Also, I think I would think about what is being a smart and what is studying hard at school means. This is because enhanced students do not have difficulties to study or remember things that we learned. Moreover, enhanced students are alsmost perfect on everything I question what is a personality for them.

There are many ways for human to improve their lives. For example, there are several kinds of hormone therapy and one of those is an administration of growth hormone to people who have short stature. Recently some parents feel sorry for their children about inheriting their short stature and decide to take growth hormone therapy, when their children are still small. This is one of the ways to ‘create’ a human being after the birth. Even though it is parents hope, it also means destroying characteristics and individuality.

My topic for my essay is how women’s positions were influenced by education in Japan. I chose this topic because I am interested in a relationship between education and women’s position or role in Japanese society. Moreover I am interested in culture enlightenment also known as Westernization, which had happened in the Meiji period in 1871 in Japan. Now a day’s women are active in business and in many stages, however this is very different from the Meiji, Taisho and Showa period. In my essay I will look at how education had changed in Japan, specifically from the Meiji to Showa period and investigate whether there is a connection with women’s position in society. Therefore my thesis statement will be, "Changes in status of women in Japanese society from the Meiji period to the Showa period are related to changes in education system during those same periods of time."
